High Court rules 2013 TET exams conducted correctly
Kolkata | Friday, Feb 26 2016 IST
The Calcutta High Court today ruled that the West Bengal government sponsored 2013's Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) examinations had followed the proper guidelines, signifying that the appointment of over 18,000 teachers was valid. Calcutta HC's single bench judge justice Debanshu Basak, while pronouncing the order on a PIL, said the TET exams held in 2013 were valid. The ruling validated the state government's appointments of over 18,000 teachers across the state. The West Bengal Primary Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) examinations were held in 2013 following a notification of 2012, which said the exams to be held under guidelines of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). However, one of the candidates Babon Ghosh had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) case before the results were out alleging that the exams did not followed the NCTE guidelines.Mr Ghosh said today that they would move the division bench against the single bench order. Primary Board chairman Manik Bhattacharyya reacting to the order said the court vindicated their transparency in holding exams and subsequent appointments of the teachers.
